Join a transformative 5-week writing workshop with Aaron Zimmerman. Writing as a Spiritual Practice: A generative writing workshop and discussion group is centered around Pat Schneider’s book How The Light Gets In: Writing as a Spiritual Practice. In this workshop, you will dive into one chapter over each of 5 session, and write in response to a prompt based on what the group has discussed. This is a brand-new workshop, offered by the Bad Habits Writing Academy.

The schedule: 5 weeks, Saturdays 10/18 through 11/22, 11AM to 2PM (3 hours with a ten minute break), with no session 11/8.

The workshop will be led by Aaron Zimmerman, who has been supporting writers and creating positive community for close to 30 years.  Aaron writes:
Since we all have our own very personal spiritual life, this workshop won’t be about trying to define or proclaim anything. It will be a group journey through how writing in community and on our own can be a spiritual practice, whatever that might mean to you. I will be a chance for each of us to explore and experience more deeply our own relationship between writing and spirituality, and to invite in some of the mystery. I have no idea what this exploration will lead to, but I also no doubt that through engaging in the process, our writing will have something to say to us, and to others.

As Founder and Executive Director of NY Writers Coalition, Aaron Zimmerman supervised, trained, and supported hundreds of Teaching Artists, who collectively ran more than 20,000 workshops. He has also led writing workshops in a variety of settings and led private writing workshops since 1997, before NYWC even launched. Members of Aaron's workshops have written dozens of published books, poems, stories, and essays. Aaron is also a published novelist, short story, essay writer, and occasional poet.
